Mandatory Containment Units
To preserve the beauty of our community and protect local wildlife, every lot is required to have a sturdy trash containment unit designed to keep garbage secure and animals out. Under no circumstances should loose trash bags be left outside.
Enclosure Design Standards
When building or installing a trash enclosure, please adhere to the following design standards to ensure it is effective:
- Ideal enclosures: The most secure setups feature four solid sides, a fixed top, and a secure latch mechanism.
- Discouraged designs: Three-sided enclosures without tops, or those secured by only a front chain, are strongly discouraged. Scavengers can easily tip the cans and pillage the contents.
- High-occupancy properties: Homes that frequently host many guests or operate as rentals are required to use a double-can enclosure to accommodate higher waste volumes.
Wildlife Precautions
Bears and raccoons are active in the Pacific City area and are known to break into standard trash enclosures. To prevent messes and keep wild animals safe from human food sources, we strongly recommend utilizing bear-proof enclosures, locking trash carts, or securing standard lids with heavy-duty bungee cords.
Violations and Penalties
Keeping Kiwanda Shores clean is a shared responsibility. Properties that experience ongoing trash-spilling issues will receive an official warning. If the problem is not corrected, subsequent violations will result in HOA fines.
